Synopsis

On a stormy night in New York City, the power goes out in the Liu family home. As Jennifer and Daniel sit by candlelight with their grandfather, Dr. Liu tells them about Nikola Tesla, the brilliant inventor who imagined a future transformed by electricity.

Soon, a mysterious invitation from Dr. K arrives, and the children step through the time portal into Tesla's world.

In nineteenth-century New York, Jennifer and Daniel enter laboratories filled with coils, motors, wires, and remarkable experiments. With Tesla and Dr. K as their guides, they discover the difference between alternating current, AC, and direct current, DC, and learn why the battle over how electricity should be delivered became known as the War of the Currents.

Their journey brings science to life as they explore circuits, electromagnetic induction, the Tesla coil, and the possibilities of wireless energy. They also witness the spectacular World's Columbian Exposition, where electric light illuminates a vision of what the future might become.

But Tesla's story is about more than inventions. Jennifer and Daniel discover a scientist who faced skepticism, setbacks, and fierce competition while continuing to pursue ideas others thought impossible.

Through experiments, questions, and an unforgettable journey into the past, they learn that scientific progress requires careful observation, persistence, imagination, and the courage to keep exploring.

Travel through time. Follow the science. Discover Nikola Tesla and the electric dreams that helped power the modern world.

A propos du livre

À propos de l'auteur

My full name is Dr. Katherine E. A. Korkidis. Over my many years in teaching, my students came to affectionately call me Dr. K. I began to work in industry upon completion of my doctoral degree in physics and chemistry. I was paid to do my own original research. As part of my position, I taught at many universities and developed new technologies while having the opportunity to travel throughout the US/Canada, Europe, Russia, and the Far East. It was a wonderful experience, and I could teach and write at every turn. Eventually I realized how much I enjoyed teaching and writing and returned to my passion. I am a writer of historical fiction as my genre of choice. Josette is my first novel. I have always wished to write for children. This is the sixth book of my series titled "Dr. K's Portal Through Time." Although a fantasy, it contains real science. It is accompanied by a science primer explaining the concepts, experiments, and discoveries of Tesla, for teachers and parents to teach beyond this book. The free primer is available to obtain at https: //katherinekorkidisauthor.com/. This is Book 6 in a series, with many more books to come. I hope you and your child enjoyed your visit to the world of Tesla and will return to join us for many more adventures beyond the stars. Thank you for your visit, Katherine E. A. Korkidis
