Philip Stott originally published The Wind in the Willows Recorder Book in 1987 (London: Methuen). He has now made an orchestration of the 10 pieces to form a 'Suite' for small orchestra, which should suit good school and amateur ensembles. You can hear the music played on your computer here: https://www.musicworks.online/wind-in-the-willows-suite.
No. 1 in the Suite may be repeated to round off a performance nicely. Because of its pastoral character, the oboe has been selected as the main melodic woodwind instrument, to go with the flute and the bassoon. However, it may be replaced by the clarinet if this fits an orchestra’s make-up better.
A delightful set of pieces capturing the spirit of the original novel and its immortal characters.
