Synopsis

Switch your television set on at home and it won’t be long before you hear some slang words, sayings, or jargon on your favourite programmes. Speak with friends and your conversations will come alive with words and phrases that will be second nature and used to describe all manner of circumstances. They are simply everywhere in our daily lives. Likewise, the use of slang and jargon is not unique to the UK and in fact many of the words we use are ‘borrowed with pride’ from other countries. In this follow up to Volume I of the ‘Little Book of Slang, Sayings, Jargon and Humour’ we have tried to reflect some of that diversity and richness within some of the chosen subjects. The ability to communicate effectively in the written and spoken word can add real value to the way we develop as individuals. Our hope is that this little book might play a small part in that journey. We now live in an age where technology and the power of social media play an ever-increasing role. Preserving our past whilst recognising these changes in society help us to create history for future generations who will then go on to create their own versions of slang appropriate to their time. Above all else we hope you enjoy this book, containing some 1,700 sayings and jargon, plus the odd poem and have some fun exploring it.
