About The Jewel of Seven Stars
“It seems that there is never to be any perfect rest. Even in Eden the snake rears its head among the laden boughs of the Tree of Knowledge. The silence of the dreamless night is broken by the roar of the avalanche.”
The Jewel of Seven Stars is a celebrated Egyptian gothic horror novel by British author Bram Stoker, first published in 1903. It recounts the story of young barrister Malcolm Ross, who is drawn into an archaeologist’s schemes to revive an ancient Egyptian mummy.
The work draws on the Victorian fascination with Egyptology deriving from the early 19th century discoveries of ancient Egyptian tombs and monuments, and the subsequent British occupation of Egypt in 1882, leading to artifacts being transported to the private manors of well-heeled Europeans as well as public museums.
