Synopsis

Celebrate We Gullah Geechee invites children to discover Gullah culture. In this rhythmic book, five young narrators invite us “down South.” Each narrator focuses on one of the five senses, celebrating the Gullah Geechee Heritage Corridor of coastal North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. We see the red bricks of old buildings, hear the ba-DUMP, ba-DUMP of riders on horseback, and feel the prickly bark of the Palmetto tree. With rhythmic, poetic text and richly detailed fine-art illustration, this book spotlights contemporary life among the vibrant Gullah Geechee people. Suitable for age 4 to 8 years.
