"World Tour by Whale" contains books 3 and 4 of the children's series Mike and Alex. In book 1, they were born and raised in Holland. With their sow, Sophie, they were allowed to eat the leftovers of good farm food. This allowed them to grow huge and become leaders of the animals in the Great Animal Forest. Mike and Alex took action when people did something seriously harmful to the animals, such as making a huge racket at a housewarming party, making hunting impossible, or even taking a seriously injured female wolf to a veterinarian. With the help of others, a pig farm was transformed from a place of animal abuse into a model business. Now, in book three, a sick whale is cured, and in book 4, Mike and Alex gather all the whales to push the whalers' boats into the ice of the Antarctic. The second story in book 4 is about the terrible pollution of the seas by humans. The octopus women knit enormous nets together from old fishing nets, and all the fish work together to fill them with waste. The garbage is then dumped at the mouths of the ports of Shanghai, Mumbai, and San Francisco. At the latter port, even a human is captured.
The series continues with book 5, in which the polar bears in Alaska complain about the annual decline in snow and ice, causing their hunting grounds to shrink and many animals to starve. Mike and Alex track down the man who is trying to make it rain over the Arabian Desert from the sparse clouds there. This technique proves highly effective in making it snow in Alaska and creating an icy atmosphere. Animals from all over the Arctic then flock to Alaska to celebrate the Cold Festival. Readers of the Online Book Club valued this book recently again with several five-star reviews.
