Synopsis

The study investigated the Emotional Intelligence (EI) skills business managers require to effectively engage employees and build a successful healthcare business, addressing the issue that these skills are often underdeveloped. The qualitative exploratory study used a primer survey and semi-structured interviews to gather data, adapting to the social-political climate and participants' hesitations. The research targeted recent African immigrants working in the healthcare sector in the Northeastern US, focusing on how managers' EI skills impact employee engagement and overall business success.

The findings highlighted the importance of social/organizational awareness and empathy for managers to effectively engage employees. Participants emphasized the need for leaders to understand and navigate the complexities of their followers' experiences, particularly in the healthcare sector where empathy with patients and families is crucial. Applying EI skills can lead to increased employee engagement and reduced turnover, ultimately contributing to sustained, high-quality healthcare outcomes.

This research underscores the critical role of EI in healthcare management, reminding leaders that empathy and understanding are essential in creating a successful and compassionate healthcare environment.
