Synopsis

AALSO (Aquatic Animal Life Support Operators) comprises a global network of professionals dedicated to the design, maintenance, and advancement of water quality and mechanical systems essential for aquatic animal care. As a nonprofit organization, AALSO is dedicated to the education and training of aquatic life support operators and water quality technicians.

While AALSO does not directly consult on projects or issues, it facilitates a network for members to stay current with industry best practices and advancements, fostering a collaborative environment for discussions on the stewardship of aquatic animals in human care.

The highlight of AALSO’s calendar is the annual Symposium and Workshops—a five-day exchange of ideas and experiences. This event serves as a dynamic arena where members exchange insights on their successes and challenges, facilities unveil new initiatives, and vendors showcase the latest equipment through engaging displays and maintenance demonstrations. The annual symposium also provides attendees with specialized hands-on workshops on the Big Automated Water Loop (BAWL) and the opportunity to earn AALSO Life Support Operator and Water Quality Technician certifications.
