King Phillip of Spain gave the icon to Junipero Serra before Serra departed for California. California’s most infamous bandit stole Helena's Golden Cross in a stagecoach robbery. Today, Helena’s Golden Cross lies buried somewhere between San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente, California—a valuable treasure awaiting discovery.
