In a small Scottish town, 14-year-old Tommy Tait's life is turned upside down when his younger sister, Olivia, falls mysteriously ill. As doctors struggle to find answers, Tommy becomes increasingly drawn to the local legend of Middle Hill, a place said to be haunted by magical creatures.

When strange lights appear on the hill, Tommy's curiosity leads him to a fateful encounter with Todd Lowrie, a being thought to exist only in local folklore. Olivia's illness, he reveals, is connected to a powerful sorceress, Mave Crow, who escaped from her ancient prison after Olivia unwittingly set her free.

With help from Todd Lowrie and another powerful creature older than time, Tommy, Olivia, and their friend Eddie embark on a perilous quest to gather the special items needed to re-imprison Mave Crow and save Olivia's life.
Their journey leads them through dangerous forests, secret underground dwellings, and the forgotten resting place of a saint. Along the way, they must confront their own fears, decipher cryptic clues, and outwit Mave Crow and her accomplices before time runs out.
