Herman W. Mudgett, alias H. H. Holmes - his name is synonymous with evil and murder most foul during the end of the Gilded Age and the 1893 World's Columbian Expedition in Chicago, Illinois.

The resulting trial was splashed across newspapers the world over, with lavish drawings of vile deeds, the unfortunate victims, a so-called "murder castle," and the dapper devil himself, in widely-printed mugshots.

In 1894, when his crimes were discovered, the term "serial killer" had not even been coined, and reporters, doctors, and the public struggled to comprehend how someone could bring himself to act this way. This newly-printed and edited edition of Holmes' 1895 original book (which was entitled "Holmes' Own Story") also contains his confession to 27 murders, as well as over 50 photos, engravings, and drawings related to Holmes, the case, and the poor souls whose lives were taken by this conman and fiend.
