A Collection of writings: Personal narrative, professional reflections, fiction, creative nonfiction, memoir, fantasy, and a bit of poetry. Six Senior Citizens in Olympia, Washington, enrolled in writing classes, discovering their voices mattered. Under the tutelage and instruction of Keith Eisner we accepted the challenge of writing eight to ten pages per week, responded to prompts for subject matter, completed exercises involving different genres, and acquired skills of critique and group accountability. Our writing improved and we committed to continue writing, relying on our writer’s gathering for useful feedback and encouragement.
Our writing reflects our backgrounds in the fields of nursing (Barbara and Martha), teaching (Christine), counseling (Jean), pastoral ministry (Bonnie), and construction (Dan). For five years we have shared our lives as well as our writing. Births of grandchildren, deaths of loved ones, the beginning, and ending of partnerships, and celebrations of new marriages have given us insights into why we write what we write. We gather monthly to connect and critique, encouraging improvement and submission of our work for possible publication.
At the time of printing our ages range from 71 to 81. We share this collection of our writing as a means of encouragement to others as old or older than we are, believing the wealth of our experiences and acquired knowledge may inspire others to take the opportunity to engage in this means of expression. What you will see on these pages is our product, not the process of writing.
