Synopsis

Busy as he was Mark Wilkinson, known as A.D. to many, stared through the window at his wife in the garden. On the desk in front of him his mobile gyrated with a call from Sarah at the BBC. Panic seized him: what to say, how to start? He knew he had missed his slot and that he was late, which was why Sarah was calling.
As A.D. reached for his phone his eyes switched back to Louise, his wife of twenty-six years, who had put her laptop with the spreadsheets to one side, pulled a small mirror from her case and positioned it against her empty coffee cup. Next, out came a pair of kitchen scissors. Slowly she lifted them to her head and took a strand of hair from the top of her head and held it between two fingers. Then she started to cut. Fascinated at such unusual behaviour from a woman who had a hairdresser's appointment every five weeks, A.D. froze as his phone went to voicemail.
The message said: " It's Sarah, are you alright? Oh, he's not answering. Ring off.'
Such a challenging morning trying to do an outside broadcast from his study. But the mobile began its dance across the desk again. This time it was Storm.
'Storm where are you?' asked A.D.
Now Sarah's message on screen was in red. He had missed the link again.
A.D. closed his eyes as he asked: 'Where are you Storm?'
Storm's voice, slightly distant said:'Hey Bud, I thought you were outside.'
'No I'm in my study,' said A.D.
'No not you A.D. the driver. Yeah, mate that's all I've got.'
'Where are you Storm?'
'Geneva. The airline's only putting twenty people at a time on the flights... I'm on the 9.25 tonight to Heathrow, A.D. but no Amy. She's stranded until April 12th....'
A.D. made up his mind: ‘Right, I'll come and get you at Heathrow. I think that's a pretty essential journey.' He thought: 'Wear the dog collar in case the police questioned my movements and I should get through to the Short Stay car park...... although what chaos Storm would cause was another story. But instead A.D. said: 'You can hole up here, can't have you doing that journey to Devon tonight.'
