Early on in his years of ministering in the Baptist faith, Rev. Father David William Harper slowly but surely began to realize that there are not two genders, but three: male, female, and preachers. For example, one Sunday morning between services, an elderly parishioner had a flat tire. Rev. Harper and some other men proceeded to change her tire when another parishioner said, “Preacher, let the men take care of that!”
This book is about Rev. Harper’s experience as a Baptist minister in rural Central Florida and the three churches he served there from 1978 to 1999. Go back in time to his years in Central Florida and hear stories that are sometimes laugh-out-loud and sometimes sentimental. The stories are all true, and while many folks he writes of are no longer alive, he is most careful to maintain their anonymity when necessary.
When most people think of Florida, they think of vacations, beaches, and having fun. While Rev. Harper lived there, he learned about farmers, cattle ranchers, horses, and hard work. His hope is that readers will truly learn to realize that their ministers are real people just like the rest of us.
Also, to his colleagues in the ministry, he strongly advises you to develop an ironclad sense of humor. You’re going to need it!
