Class and Intersectionality in the Hebrew Bible commemorates the thirtieth anniversary of Norman K. Gottwald's 1992 presidential address to the Society of Biblical Literature, titled "Social Class as an Analytic and Hermeneutical Category." This volume revives the question of the relevance of social class in biblical studies generally, and specifically in the study of the Hebrew Bible. However, it takes the inquiry a step further by engaging with the concept of intersectionality. The contributors explore how social class interacts with and intersects with various other social categories and identities, including, but not limited to, race, gender, sexual orientation and expression, nationality, citizenship, age, geography, immigration status, disability, and religion. This volume demonstrates that the discussion of social class is not isolated; instead, it is tightly intertwined with multiple aspects of identity.
