From 1995 until 2009, EcoWorld.com was a growing source of information and commentary on free market environmentalism, clean technology, and the status of species and ecosystems. Attracting contributing writers from all over the world, and at the peak attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors, EcoWorld became an influential observer of what in its final years was a green gold rush as innovators fought to develop the breakthrough products and technologies that would deliver sustainability to the people and the planet.
This book selects 100 essays written by EcoWorld's founder and editor, Edward Ring. Listed in chronological order, they span the entire 15 year period. Out of a simple initial mission - to encourage planting trees all over the world - these feature articles, essays, and brief posts eventually came to cover the entire spectrum of topics that might be relevant to environmentalists and clean technology entrepreneurs: energy, water, transportation, waste management, recycling, automobiles, agriculture, biofuel, hydrogen, infrastructure, architecture, urban planning, climate change, economics, politics, wilderness and wildlife, and, always, forests and reforesting.
In 2009 EcoWorld was sold and taken offline. This book offers a glimpse into those years when it was in the thick of things, reporting on the early days of the cleantech revolution, days that were filled with enthusiastic hype and genuine hope.
