Synopsis

As the title says, Vintage Works is at its heart a sketchbook, my sketchbook of vintage cars that I find inspiring. It began several years ago as a fun project when I started sketching some vintage cars for inspiration. Before going on, perhaps I should take a moment to say what I mean by vintage. Some car enthusiasts may reserve this category for cars from 1919 - 1930 and instead may categorize the cars within as classic cars. For me, these vintage cars reflect the Oxford Dictionary definition: “Denoting something from the past of high quality, especially something representing the best of its kind.”

I also wanted to express that vintage car design still works to inspire, refresh, re-inform, or renew

current design perspectives. Vintage works – get it?

Vintage Works was also born from a shared passion for design. In this spirit, I have included the voices of several friends and colleagues who were kind enough to share their thoughts and stories on several cars. I appreciate how their unique perspectives have lent a certain richness to the book by complementing and adding dimension.

I cannot emphasize enough this is not a textbook or history book; it is a sketchbook complemented by sound-bites and stories about the cars within. For the most part, I have kept the text light, as many of you are well-acquainted with the various histories and can also research the finer points if you wish to.
