The immensity of space and time - what else is out there? The complexity of consciousness - what else is in there? Blending physical science and philosophy, LIFE & SPACE contains a selection of written thoughts from Caden Howlett's initial exploration of such questions. It is a casual book, written for fun but confronting life's biggest questions.
Broken into five parts, the book gradually increases the scale of contemplation from the human to the infinite. Part I (Human) considers Stoic philosophy, neuroscience, and mortality (among other things). More broadly, we think about the human experience and how it relates to our place in space. Part II (Civilization) includes (but is not limited to) essays on energy consumption, science and religion in society, and collective human experience. Part III (Earth) contains ponderings on topics in geoscience (both rock and water) and biology and conservation. Part IV (Cosmos) takes us into the night sky where we will focus on the solar system, black holes, time warps, stellar evolution, and more. Part V (Beyond) ventures into the commonly speculative realms of futurism, artificial intelligence and the simulation argument, consciousness, and metaphysics.
LIFE & SPACE is a book written for the curious. For the sad and the hopeful. For the romantic. For friends and family, present and future.
