This chronicling of the popular music scene, in the Wolverhampton and surrounding area, is unmatched by any other in existence and to many it has become THE reference book for local pop music historians. It is also a personal recollection of the times, not only from Keith Farley himself but also from many of the musicians who graduated from skiffle to rock ‘n’ roll and then on to mainstream pop and rock music including psychedelia and prog-rock. Keith interviewed band members, roadies, managers, and fans over a quarter of a century ago and thankfully documented all their thoughts, together with their memories on both their favourite venues and their playing experiences.
Many of these reminiscences are documented in this book and they are a testament to the talent and ability of those many musicians who dreamt of becoming the next Shadows, Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Who, or any of the successful chart bands of the decade that saw popular music develop from the 'Moon and June' crooners of the early 1960’s to the more psychedelic bands at the end of the decade and then on to the glam rock of the early 1970’s. Some went on to make a tidy living on the cabaret circuit, some found careers with other more established bands, and a handful found that elusive international fame with chart topping singles and albums.
