This is the 5th book in Isaac Ambrose's 9-book series entitled "Looking Unto Jesus, The Author and Finisher of Our Faith." As I've been updating the 17th century language in these books to make them more accessible to we who are living in the 21st Century, I've marveled at how each book, each covering a different phase of Jesus' ministry, has gotten better—gotten more absorbing, more insightful, more beautifully written and presented, more wonderfully thorough and faith provocative. There’s a real reason this book, when published around 1650, was held in the same esteem at Bunyon’s Prilgrim’s Progress. It is a magnificent read. But more than that, it is a thorough look at what God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, our beloved 3 in 1, were doing and accomplishing, in the case of this book, in and through the suffering and death of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Why did He have to die? And why this terrible and painful way? Could Pilate really wash his hands of Christ’s blood? These and so many other questions are answered as Rev. Ambrose as he lays out the moment-by-moment events of that horror-punctuated 20-hour period, arguably the most meaningful 20 hours in man’s history, and in God’s grace and mercy to His people. When you turn the final page of this beautiful work, you’ll understand more completely God’s love for you, personally—and you’ll know, better than ever before, what your response should be to that love. This is a must read on the truest sense. Have at it!
