Synopsis

Andy Marsjanik died by suicide in September 2019. But that was not the end of his story.

Andy had been writing a memoir about a lifetime of alcohol addiction and recovery. His goal was to help others with similar struggles by telling his story. Andy's grieving sister Amy vowed to carry on his mission, so she banded together with family and friends to complete his book—which you now hold in your hands.

Unlike most other stories about mental illness, addiction, and recovery, Andy was writing in real time about what he was going through and what it felt like. His narrative infuses We Got This, Kids with an honesty, urgency, and power that are rare to find. And the voices of his loved ones add even more dimension to his struggle.

What a great loss to the world that this was the only book Andy would ever write. His sharp, acerbic humor engages the reader on every page. As you read Andy's story, you will find yourself alternately cracking up, tearing up, and—as his sister Amy says—whispering "WTF?"

Andy despaired that he'd already seen all the sunrises he would ever see in his life. His illness lied to him, told him he had nothing left. Our greatest hope is that as you read We Got This, Kids, you realize just how many more sunrises are waiting for you—for all of us.
