Synopsis

This is a beautiful story of winning together in Both Malayalam and English. There are lessons to be learnt and taught on team work and this is the right age to do so.

Mother tongue is that which a child gets to hear after birth and helps them give definite shape to their feelings and thoughts. Learning in the mother tongue is extremely crucial for improving critical thinking skills, to pick other languages, and also enrich literacy skills. Mother tongue for a child involves more than just language and it defines the child’s personal, social and cultural identity. The choice of words and expression carry different meaning across cultures and sometimes the culture of direct questions may be considered intrusive in one culture , while in another it is considered as a rich expression of curiosity. This book is an attempt to bring immigrant children closer to the language that would have been easier to access if they were born in their own communities. Parents are encouraged to read this aloud to their children in their mother tongue while also allowing them to understand the meaning of the story in English. New words that sound very different from the most widely spoken English language will create explosive images in the minds of children who are at an interesting age of understanding the similarities more than the differences in their little world. Even if you are not getting the bilingual copy- allow your children to hear the language of love as you read this along with them.
My father told me stories like these, all through my childhood.
These stories defined my character and built strength and resilience and greatly influenced what I chose to do with my life, career choices and my way of life. Yes- stories that are told between the ages of One and Ten significantly influences the future of your children and that way, the society itself. The Tamara and Ila project is my way of passing that back to my children and as many who care about making the world a better place
The Tamara and ila Series were initiated to meet that need and the stories are intentionally meant to allow for the young minds to problem solve, to support one another, to encourage succeeding in partnership. In a world that oftentimes focusses only on having Hero’s and Villains, we hope to inspire the beauty of succeeding together, the spirit of Ubuntu. In these series Tamara and Ila will solve problems, learn and talk about difficult issues of the world and process it healthily and always have the approach of serving each other and the Society. Our hope is that parents have the opportunity to help their children look towards a better world through the stories of these twins.
