In the late 19th century, a journalist calling himself "Uncle Sam" Johansson rode the train rails in search of fame, fortune, and cryptozoological beasts. Having lost his arm, Johansson had it replaced with a brass key typewriter and became the very first Gonzo Journalist. His account was meticulously footnoted by his partner, Jebediah Young, and by Sam himself, decades after the fact. The resulting narrative covers both his search for the Great White Buffalo and his heroic effort to write a novel comprised entirely of telegrams. The subsequent toad-licking is a bonus.
