Synopsis

On a Friday night flight home from a work trip, thirty-year-old Grant O’Connor hears a voice in the row behind him. It is a voice that will stay with him—that of Daniela (Danny) Romano. Though he is immediately smitten, when Grant finds that Danny is on the way to visit her boyfriend, he tries to forget her. However, his outspoken friend and adult baseball league teammate—South McCallister—simply will not let him.

As Grant and Danny get to know each other through devious circumstances, the dark parts of their respective pasts begin to emerge. Grant struggles with the death of his childhood friend, who suffered from a rare and excruciating pain syndrome. Meanwhile, Danny, who was raised by her older sister in a convent, exhibits the effects of a childhood with a mother who suffers from mental illness and a father who abandoned the family when she was young.

Though Grant and Danny attempt to move on, they find that—whether through fate or free will—the dark past can always resurface.

A Different Kind of Gentle is a contemporary love story that challenges humanity’s views on death and dying.
