Synopsis

A rediscovered 1933 serial epic concerning the startling adventures of Janelle Elliot.

Janelle's never ending peril, disaster and torment while fighting to pull her baby out of the cruel hands of predators leads her into a series of sensational dramas and crisis. All of it gaining her widespread national media attention. And also noticed by Hollywood.

In this second volume Janelle signs a contract with poverty row studio XL Art Productions in "Pre-Code" Hollywood, California. And is unknowingly exploited by seedy studio boss Maxie Cason.

Hollywood's "Pre-Code Era" began after the rapid spread of sound movies in 1929 until the enforcement of the Motion Picture Production Code censorship guidelines in 1934.

Elliot's new acting career is part of a determined plan to find her abducted child. While in Hollywood she is escorted to the Brown Derby and other night spots in Tinsel Town, gazing at a cross section of Hollywood royalty; Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, Bebe Daniels, Marlene Dietrich, Josef von Sternberg, Marion Davies, and Renee Adoree.

While evading murderous thieves and bootleggers, she also experiences how movie studios built stars in the early sound era.

RANSOM! is a pulp roller coaster ride of mystery, disaster, grisly murder, and dramatic adventure in spades.

Written by Grace Allen Hardy at the height of the Lindbergh Baby abduction and murder scandal, RANSOM! was created for the average reader Each volume also has a glossary at the end.
