This book will help you prepare a situational competency-based interview (SCBI) for competitions or selection procedures, especially those ones organised by the European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO) for Administrators (AD) – Generalists and Specialists – and Assistants (AST), to get a job in the EU institutions.
It contains: an explanation about this type of exercises; an analysis of the EPSO SCBI; our method to prepare a situational interview; a study in detail of a case closely based on an actual EPSO test, including our answers and solutions to the assignment, and giving additional tips to elaborate your own responses; a set of potential questions based on the assignment and not based on the assignment, showing how to answer them while displaying positive behaviours in your interview; and finally our conclusions and recommendations for your SCBI. We have added a second exercise with more questions and answers to facilitate your practices on these situational interviews.
(Our responses and recommendations can also be useful to prepare a role play test, because the situational interview also comprises several role play questions).
All this from the personal and professional experience of a successful candidate in numerous tests of the highly competitive EPSO Administrators' cycle – computer-based tests, intermediate tests, and assessment centre interviews –, being an official at the public administration in Spain and having held several positions as a Head of Unit from 2009 to the present, mostly in the areas of human resources, law enforcement, finance, programme management and general administration.
He has also worked as a national expert at the European Commission, gaining additional experience on communication and political affairs at the EU level, provided training to civil servants, and coached many candidates for open competitions (reasoning tests, 'talent screener', practical exercises, and interviews), helping them improve their abilities and competencies.
