1846. Peter Panum, a young Danish physician, is sent from the University of Copenhagen to the remote Faroe Islands to investigate a measles outbreak. He is accompanied by Anna Magnusdóttir, an accomplished marine botanist who grew up on the Faroe Islands. The rugged landscape shapes their scientific discoveries and their feelings for each other. However, their relationship is challenged as they face antagonism from local officials about the cause of the deadly disease and people from Anna’s past.
