The story starts in Lockdown 2020 with Boris Johnson’s announcement that we must all stay at home. This provided the opportunity to clear the desk and do what David had wanted to do for many years; write his life story.
Charting his childhood memories with his three siblings was a salutary exercise. His father was in hospital with TB, his mother ably balancing life’s priorities on little more than post war family allowances, living in cramped rented accommodation.
But the family blossomed and went on to have interesting and fulfilling lives. David joined the Royal Air Force and had a flying career on the Hercules C130 and later as an instructor on the Jet Provost. Later, he left for a second and even more successful career in computer sales and software development.
Retirement provided more opportunities in amateur photography, choral singing, learning the piano, family history. He also found time to travel the world with close friends and his amazing wife who has been his strength through many adversity.
The book was completed in record time, with the help of competent copy readers to make this a well constructed story for all to enjoy. First published in August 2020, the book has been updated and revised.
