Synopsis

She was a poor soul who had long given up any hope of ever being free again. The evidence that had convicted Annie Crockett of brutally murdering her husband had been overwhelming, although the body was never found, until now.
After serving ten hard years in a prison hellhole the wretched woman was offered salvation by Scotland Yard’s most accomplished detective, Chief Inspector Richard Rayner, who was the first to hold doubts about her conviction. But to prove the lady’s innocence, it was necessary to find the real killer and that wasn’t going to be easy. Annie Crockett had a secret, one she protected with her life and one she was prepared to spend the rest of her days in oblivion, behind bars.
Without the help of the lady he was trying to help, the detective persevered, conducting a compelling Investigation and risking his career while doing so. Rayner’s abilities and sixth sense were tested to the limit, hampered by Crockett’s refusal to divulge whatever it was, she feared.
Either he would eventually reveal the truth, having to work against all odds, or Annie Crockett would die inside the hovel in which she lived her life.
A gripping story of many twists and turns, right up to the last chapter.
