During the global health pandemic of COVID-19 in 2020, homeowners in the Old West Lawrence neighborhood in Lawrence, KS researched, wrote, and shared stories about their homes. Some recounted the early inhabitants in the mid-1850s, others documented the role their home played in Quantrill's Raid, some recalled the many restoration projects their home has endured, while other homeowners pondered the existence of spirits in their hallways.
The stories contained in this collection bring a deeper understanding of what it means to shelter in place. A home provides a respite from the world, a gathering place for loved ones, myriad projects to take on, and endless possibilities for generations to come. We invite you into our homes and histories through these stories.
