On September 8, 2020, fire raged through the Rogue Valley of southern Oregon, devouring homes, businesses and forests. Devastating losses, evacuation orders, road closures and smothering smoke created challenging conditions for all the valley's residents from Ashland to Central Point; from Eagle Point to Shady Cove. That same day multiple fires scorched and ravaged many other parts of the state. This happened in the midst of the most virulent global pandemic of the century. Nine women tell their individual stories in prose, poetry and pictures. They are heart wrenching, witty and insightful tales of the flames, the fear, the frenzy . . . and the hope.
