Synopsis

British Colonial Footprints is a name I coined to describe where the British exercised some control of the inhabitants of any country or territory but this was manifested in several different forms of governance as described later.

This book is not a history of the British Empire; rather, it’s a record of where the British left their footprints on other countries and territories. I have selected what I consider to be a significant and interesting list of countries and territories with the events which lead to their governance and often, but not always, their ultimate independence from Britain.

To keep the book a short and interesting read, I have not included some territories and sovereign bases in any great detail. I have condensed long passages of text from a frequently used source to incorporate just enough for the reader to understand the British presence.

This second edition includes additional countries in S.E Asia not present in the first edition
