Synopsis

Due to a greedy president and an unexpected virus, bananas are just a memory except for a solitary museum exhibit; the last banana in the world. Billy’s grandfather knows different. Together with a talking myna bird, a nun called Maria and a reclusive friend named Seignior Kurtz, he is secretly nurturing a new crop to give back to the world. Miguel Jones, the president’s embittered son and his companions known as “the miserable wretches” are surviving on regular banana substitutes as they plan steal the world’s last banana. With help from a computer savvy uncle, a long lost sister and a scruffy cat called Boris, they find out about the possible existence of actual bananas and decide to get them all for themselves. Travelling by a hijacked aeroplane, a ship crewed by wannabe pirates, inflatable speed boats and a hot air balloon amongst other things, everybody heads for the island where the banana plantations are found. We meet a banana intolerant shark, and find out that too much banana, no matter how tasty, can cause terrible flatulence. Will Miguel get all the bananas? Will Billy be able to stop him? Will the miserable wretches stop farting? There are emotional family reunions and there is forgiveness and redemption. And in the end, there are enough bananas, for everyone.
