Elea Johnson and Scott Preston, Catholic outreach coordinators from New York, and their volunteers, are assigned to minister to a small southern church community.Elea’s journey is filled with joyous and challenging times. Her boyfriend, Lane Hudson, is a rich and successful investment broker, who she hopes will offer her a marriage proposal. However, Elea finds herself falling in love with Kyle Williams, the church’s handsome associate pastor. Kyle is a widower, is single-parenting his young son, and needs to watch his budget. He dates Beth Leiden, the rude and controlling church assistant who senses Elea as a threat from the very start, and relentlessly taunts her.Elea refuses Lane’s marriage proposal, realizing her true calling in life is to continue her ministry to the underprivileged community. She’s disappointed that Kyle, despite his warm advances, makes no effort to fight for her or their love. Elea, heartbroken, leaves the ministry and prepares to take the earliest train back to New York. Kyle ultimately realizes he’s made a serious mistake in letting her go. Along with his young son, Jack, he hastens to the local train station just in time to prevent Elea from leaving town.
