Through the Mountains to the Stars is a collection of stories and photographs about the adventures of a curious, stubborn solo woman traveler in the Andes and especially Bolivia. I roamed not as a tourist with a knowledgeable guide, but as a seeker of excursions well off the beaten track. I was not a young person full of physical energy, but an older woman, old enough to be a grandmother, but with strong feet. I traveled alone and far and wide often on big inter-city buses. I was compelled to wander in wonder through high Andean plains, rainbow colored mountains, indigenous communities, as well as thick jungle where iridescent blue butterflies danced. My adventures included a long freighter trip, a month in a remote Ecuadoran village, visits to the Incan citadel of Machu Picchu, as well as to the seals in Iquique, Chile and much more. I got to know well the interesting city of Sucre, as well as La Paz, one of the highest cities in the world. I was privileged to deeply experience other cultures, old traditions that are alive and well, dynamic cities, celebrations, dancing, music, and especially the undisturbed brilliance of the stars. With these stories I invite you to share my unique experiences and to be inspired to follow your own dreams.
