Overview
The book begins by addressing the elephant in the room, it’s okay to have questions about your faith and it’s natural to experience doubts. The emphasis is not choosing to end the pursuit there. God understands that we will have questions. “For your thoughts are not my thoughts ways are not my ways, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. (Isaiah 55:8) God does not fault us for failing to understand, but he does expect us to ask for His wisdom and to seek His truth. We live in a secular world that often does not follow God’s playbook. Christians can feel overwhelmed by questions that we feel ill-equipped to answer. But before we can begin answering questions for those outside our faith, we must start by answering our own.

In Part I- “Where Did We Come From?” I explore questions relating to evolution and creationism beginning with an exploration of Ancient Hebrew to an in depth look at scientific dating techniques. This lays the foundation to answer the question of whether science compliments or is contrary to the biblical narrative. A careful comparison of the scientific research is paired with each of day of creation. This is wrapped up in a summary and analysis demonstrating that each piece is complementary to each other.

Part II- Who Am I? This section begins to shift to a more personal look at who we are and what it means to be made in God’s image. It also dives into the creation of man and woman and God’s original plan for each of us. This takes a look at challenging prior interpretations of our roles. It reinforces that women were not created to be subservient to men, but to be a complementary partner. Original sin is explored as well as the specific consequence faced by each that was involved. This section is also aimed at providing a deeper understanding of the Old Testament as the foundation for our faith in Jesus. It discusses the Ten Commandments as well as the exodus, journey, and captivity of the Israelites. Although far from the truth, it sheds light on why many people see God in the Old Testament as a God of wrath rather than a God of love. By learning who we are meant to be and learning from past mistakes we are able to find our new identity in Jesus and brings us a step closer to becoming the person God created us to be.

Part III- Why Am I Here? This section is about finding purpose in life. It is the most personal of all of the chapters. In it I take a hard look at myself and explore some heavy questions that had caused feelings of inadequacy most of my life. This change began as I heard the testimony of God’s grace from others. Others who openly shared their pain, their vulnerabilities, and ultimately their hope in Jesus. A section addresses the barriers we allow to stand in our way to having a loving and personal relationship with God. Barriers like anger, resentment, shame, anxiety, and selfishness. We must each examine our lives in honest reflection and remove our barriers if we hope to have a real relationship with God. Personal testimony is what God uses to change others’ lives. Each section contains a personal testimony from different people, including myself. By revealing the hurt and the healing, others can see the power of God’s transformation. In order to do this, we must start by being honest with ourselves and being real with others.
