In the book Principles of Human Knowledge and Three Dialogues, Berkeley argues against the claims made by John Locke about the nature of human perception, while both of them agreed that we are having experiences, regardless of whether material objects exist. Berkeley wanted to prove that the world is also entirely composed of ideas. While the second book “Three Dialogues”, is written by Berkeley as a response to the poor reception of “Principles of Human Knowledge”.
George Berkeley (1685-1753) was an Irish philosopher born in County Kilkenny, Ireland whose best known for his theory “immaterialism”. The theory denies the existence of material substance and argues that material objects like spoons or tables are only ideas in our mind and therefore cannot exist without being perceived.
