Synopsis

When the worst happened and Genevieve’s father died, she comforted herself that they still had their ma. Then the unimaginable occurred, and she lost ma too. Was every part of her life doomed?

After a terrible accident took her father’s life, Genevieve thought life could get no worse - until she woke one morning and found that her mother had abandoned the family. Unable to keep her siblings fed or safe, Genevieve eventually agrees that the children be placed in the precarious care of the Islington workhouse while Genevieve dances on the street for coins, saving every coin she can to bring the family back together again. When a fortuitous meeting brings Genevieve to the Mowbray’s Music Hall, and the chance at employment, she puts her plan into action to deliver her siblings from the workhouse. Yet soon, she discovers a jealous and bitter enemy set on her ruin, and finds herself evicted from her humble home for a wrong she never committed. Now thrown out on the streets Genevieve is alone and fighting for her life.

Guy Chambers, a handsome and kind violinist, befriends Genevieve and a tenderness develops between them. He hopes that friendship will grow, and worries about her. Soon, he is proven right to have worried. When Genevieve disappears, he is desperate to find her, and searches the streets and alleyways, but what he discovers brings him to the brink of despair.

Will Genevieve be able to survive and bring her family home? Will Guy find her in time to save her? or is all hope lost for their love, her family, and a future together?
