Synopsis

(Up-dated February 2026) With a career spanning more than five decades, Tina Turner was one of the most successful singers and entertainers of all-time. As part of the husband/wife duo Ike & Tina Turner, she recorded hits like River Deep – Mountain High, Proud Mary and Nutbush City Limits. Between 1974 and 1979, Tina recorded four solo albums, but it wasn’t until she released PRIVATE DANCER in 1984 that her solo career really took off.

Often referred to as the Queen of Rock‘n’Roll, Tina has sold 200+ million records worldwide. She won eight Grammy Awards, three Grammy Hall of Fame Awards and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with Ike, in 1991, and appeared in more than a dozen films, most notably Tommy (1975), Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) and Last Action Hero (1993).

For the purposes of this book, to qualify as a Top 40 hit, a single or album must have entered the Top 40 chart in at least one of the featured countries. The Top 40 hits are detailed chronologically, according to the date they first entered the chart in one or more of the featured countries. Each Top 40 single and album is illustrated and the catalogue numbers and release dates are detailed for the UK and USA, followed by the chart action in each country.

The main listings are followed by ‘The Almost Top 40 Singles’, which gives an honourable mention to singles that peaked between no.41-50 in one or more countries, but which failed to enter the Top 40 in any. There is also a points-based list of the Top 40 singles and Top 20 albums, plus a fascinating Trivia section, which looks at the most successful singles and albums in each of the featured countries.
