This book tells the story of the Scottish football clubs that once played in the Scottish Football League. This includes the Glasgow clubs: Cowlairs, Linthouse, Northern and Thistle; the Edinburgh clubs of Leith Athletic and St Bernard’s; and the other founding League club from Paisley - Abercorn. What happened to the other original founding members Cambuslang, Renton and Vale of Leven? It also includes King’s Park of Stirling whose demise was precipitated by the German Luftwaffe; the four missing clubs of West Lothian: Armadale, Bathgate, Bo’ness and Broxburn United; the name changes of Meadowbank Thistle, Dundee Hibernian and ES Clydebank; the financial intrigues at Third Lanark, Clydebank and Gretna; and the clubs of the ill-fated Third Division whose abandonment in 1926 saw 11 further clubs drop out of the League never to return.
