Synopsis

Doric is the dialect spoken in North East Scotland and the 'Doric Ditties' contained in this book are written in that particular style. Most of the items contained in the book are of a humorous nature, but others do convey serious points. Some are appearing in print for the first time, while others are modifications of previous works rewritten, to suit the style of the book. Whereas most of the rhymes are original, some are re-imaginings of works by others, all of whom have been credited - generally by means of an apology for unpicking their libretto. The majority of poems in the collection are composed of short verses, but those that have been redone in the Doric style from previous collections, are slightly lengthier. These include revamped versions of 'A smoke alarm for Great Aunt Mavis' (of which three versions are included), 'The story of fire', 'The adventures of Anonie Mouse' and 'Consternation Street'.
