Most of us think of pornography as normal, harmless fun. But when I discovered my partner watching it and researched the industry for myself, I realised it was an entirely different world to the one I had imagined. It’s even on social media.This is where teenage boys learn about sex and what girls want. What they see is girls being spat on, punched, and called “slut”. This is where men get their sexual appetites and learn what women want. What they see is teens, choking, and rape.So, it's no surprise that we have thousands of rape and sexual assaults cases in the UK, including in schools. Experts and research suggest that porn is one of the main causes of sexual violence. Yet, society has normalised porn. It wants you to believe the porn industry is harmless…endless parties, fun, and glamour. In reality, it fuels child sexual abuse, violence against women, and sex trafficking. In a #MeToo era, are we really okay with this? Women are in danger. Our children are in danger. But nobody wants to talk about this — and that's exactly why we should.
