Reviews
If you have young children, the commercialisation of Halloween will have undoubtedly touched your home. You may have felt uncomfortable with the idea of celebrating death and all that comes with it. This, of course, is the opposite of the true meaning of an All-Hallows celebration. It is hard for parents to avoid the dark side, but here, in this lovely book for children, Wilcox and Weir hit it out of the park again! This wonderful story to share with your children will shine some light on the real meaning, and give you some great ideas for an alternative party. Wilcox is an excellent story teller, we are drawn in to this magnificent journey from darkness into light, the characters pop off the page with insights into the important questions. Weir’s artwork enhances the story at every turn of the page. This book is a must for all who want, with their children, to exchange darkness for light.

John 1:5, ‘The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.’ What a wonderful story illustrating how the ‘Darkness of Halloween’ and all the Halloween traditions and customs that are followed and practiced revolving around darkness and all things scary, can all be overcome by light. The story’s introduction of Jesus being the ‘Light of the World’ overcoming all these things, gives the young reader a lovely alternative to the darkness of Halloween.
The story is well illustrated and flows very well, with our main character ‘Jane’ learning how the darkness of Halloween Parties can be outdone by Jesus and ‘Light Parties’, and the wonderful stories of the Bible. This book would indeed light up any young child’s life; helping them with any doubts and fears they may have, and the many scary, rather dark messages connected to witches, spells and Halloween. May Jesus and the Light Party story be a light for many of our young of today.
Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
Pastor Garry Kelly, Cross Hills Baptist Church
Jesus and the Light Party is a wonderful story about a young girl, Jane, who has to decide between a Halloween Party at school and her best friend’s Light Party. Her decision to go to the Light Party, expresses brilliantly through the writing and illustrations, the excitement and joy of the party and how Jesus is the Light of the World.
This story is perfectly written for children aged 4 to 9 and would suit a child reading alone, with a grown up, or in a group setting.
The excellent illustrations depict the story exquisitely.
