Most people don’t want to hurt anybody. They want to become better people and to do their share to make the world a better place. They may pick up this book to see whether it might help them.

If they are Muslims or Christians, they already respect Jesus as the Messiah who ultimately will solve all the world’s problems. They are the ones we are writing to, inviting them to reconsider how Jesus will get this done and where all of us fit into his strategy.

This is serious since the Messiah is recruiting participants for his strategy and warning those who decide not to participate. He says, ‘If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.’ (Luke 9:24)

What does that actually mean and how do we do it? It sounds like more than trying harder to be good. Does it mean martyrdom? The Messianic Pilgrimage is a book for people who would like to discover for themselves the meaning of the journey the Messiah wants them to take.

We co-authors are in the process of discovering what it means for us but we cannot tell you exactly what it will mean for you. We are only sharing some thoughts about eight phases or ‘seasons’ of the pilgrimage, each focused on a different aspect of what it means to be a follower of the Messiah.

The eight phases do not add up to a programme, though it might look like that at first. There is no ‘Messianic Pilgrimage’ organisation to join. All we are doing is speaking as pilgrims on behalf of the Messiah, inviting you to join him. As you go through the eight phases, he will tell you what they mean for you.

Our prayer is that he will draw you to become as passionate about him and this life of discovery as we are. His promise stands: ‘Give up your life for my sake, and you will save it.’
