Synopsis

Did you know that the nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty is claimed to owe its origins to Gloucester during the English Civil War? Or that a poem written by a Gloucestrian kept Nelson Mandela's spirits up whilst he was incarcerated for 27 years? Or that the very same poet was the inspiration for Long John Silver in Treasure Island? Had you realised that Gloucester Cathedral was once destined for demolition or that The Beatles played in what is now a Wetherspoons pub or that the vacuum cleaner was invented right here in Gloucester?

All these facts, rumours, myths and more are collated for the first time in this book.
