Published in 1848, Vanity Fair is a regency era novel by English author William Makepeace Thackeray, following the adventures of social climber Becky Sharp and the sweet but naïve Amelia Sedley. The novel takes its title from the place designated as the centre of human corruption in John Bunyan’s 17th-century allegory Pilgrim’s Progress.
