Synopsis

Thirty-four year old Raquel Whiteman has it all: beauty, a high-powered career, a very rich fiancée, a loving brother and a stepfather she adores. Life is good.

There she meets a much younger man who quickly becomes emotionally important to her; one who quickly drives any sorrow she has about her broken engagement out of heart and mind.

Rhett Costa Marques is a very attractive young man on the verge of life; a creative studying to become a writer. He is drawn to Raquel and while making himself indispensable begins to fall in love with her. A kindred spirit he helps her find her way, not only familiarising her with the country but also the institutions and people she needs to approach for information about her parents early life.

All the time the same thoughts revolve in Raquel’s head: what event was so terrible that neither her mother nor her stepfather Ken ever spoke about their years in Portugal? Why did they never mention the house? Why did her mother’s will stipulate the house could not be sold until after hers and Ken’s deaths? Why? Why?

Gradually Raquel begins to uncover the long-withheld truth and realises she must confront Ken and demand he reveal the entire story, to fill in the gaps she has failed to find. Only then will she be able to get on with her life, one with the promise of a great love with Rhett.

But life, as we are often told, does not always go according to plan. Sometimes it delivers a body blow. Is Raquel strong enough to withstand one last catastrophic secret?
