Synopsis

Don Juan by Lord Byron is a satirical, epic poem that depicts Don Juan not as a womanizer, but as an unsophisticated and innocent young man easily seduced by women. Juan survives a shipwreck en route from his native Sevilla (Seville) on a Greek island, where he is sold into slavery in Constantinople. He escapes and joins the Russian army where he serves valiantly in the Russian siege of Ismail and is transferred to St. Petersburg, where he earns the empress Catherine the Great's favor and is assigned to a diplomatic mission to England.
