Synopsis

Since the day he came into this world, Little Doug has had his own unique way of doing and seeing things. He has been challenging and delighting us with his unique view of life ever since. We always knew he was special, but we became even more aware of just how amazing our little guy was when two months after his 6th birthday, he was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy and acute heart failure. To save his life, the doctors performed open-heart surgery and implanted a heart pump called an LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device). Watching him bounce back from such a horrific life-altering event while never losing his resilience, fun-loving attitude, and exuberance for life, has been the privilege of my lifetime.
When Little Doug was very young, I started documenting the cute and funny things he would say and do--so that I could always remember them. Soon I started sharing them with friends and family. After his heart surgery, I began sharing them with other "LVADers". I have since received many, many requests to put them in a book. So this is Little Doug's Mom, sharing a glimpse of him with you.
