At the centre of the Great Glen the communities of Fort Augustus and the adjacent Glengarry and Glenmoriston have been at the extremities of other much larger parishes for centuries: only in comparatively recent times have they had any independent identity. For this reason much of the early history of the churches in this area has been subsumed within those larger parishes. This study sets out to explore the fascinating story and the role of the Christian Church in the communities of this area. From the Celtic saints to renewable energy and rewilding, local Christians have sought to be faithful to their calling.
A final chapter applies lessons from the past to the challenges of the present century. The God of the past is the God of the future and, learning from its history, God’s people in the Great Glen and in similar rural areas are encouraged to embrace the possibilities that lie ahead.
